"Garbage" Fashion SHow - Identifying the Recyclable (Grade 3 or any)

Lesson Description:

Students will participate in a "Garbage Fashion Show", where each group of students has 4 roles: Recorder, Supplies Manager, Speaker, Timer and everyone contributes in all other aspects.  Students will identify the various pieces of garbage and recyclable materials on a previously made outfit (on lying on the floor).  Students then tally the number of objects from the different categories on the garbage clothing with the teachers guidance before breaking off into groups with their own bags of garbage that they must sort and tally.  Students will then be lead in a discussion of the importance of recycling

Ecological Footprint (Grade 5)

Lesson Description:

Students are introduced to the idea of Ecological Footprints and shown a small slideshow of human's effect on the environment.  The read the book entitled Lora and then break off into groups where each group presents their data on ecological footprints to the rest of the class.
