Lesson 1

Math

-Quantitative Relationships

Lesson Length: 50 min

Assessment:    Formative

Lesson Description:

students will be divided into families each with their own description. Each family lives within a refugee camp, and therefore must budget their supplies accordingly. Teacher will play the role of money-lender, store clerk and labour enforcer.

Lesson 2

Math

-Population Density

Lesson Length: 50 min

Lesson Description:

Students will be introduced to refugee camps, and what they are lie. Example will be Darfur. Students will then compare the population densities of various countries.

Lesson 3 - Creating Oral Traditions

Language Arts

Lesson Length: 50 min

Assessment:    Self-Assessment

Lesson Description:

Students will get into their tribe groups and create an oral tradition of peace that should be no more than 5 minutes in length.

Lesson 4

Drama

Lesson Length: 50 min

Lesson Description:

Students will create a dramatization based on their oral tradition. They are required to create a script and keep an account of the process through which they created their dramatization.

Lesson 5

Social Sciences

Lesson Length: 50 min

Assessment:    Diagnostic and Formative

Lesson Description:

Students will read "The iroquois: the Six Nations Confederacy" and "The Iroquois Indians" and discuss.  Discussion will be prompted by questions, and students will be encouraged to ask questions, which will be organized via chart paper.  This is followed by silent reading.

Lesson 6 - Oral Story Telling

Language Arts

Lesson Length: 50 min

Assessment:    Diagnostic and Formative

Lesson Description:

Students will listen to the oral tradition of  the Six Nations Peacemaker. Students will then discuss what makes an oral story effective. Students will then be asked to reflect in their journal.
