Special Education: Inclusive Practices for Inner City Schools AQ
(Parts 1 and 2)
The Special Education: Inclusive Practices for Inner City Schools AQ (Parts 1 and 2), is a collaborative project between the TDSB Model Schools Cluster 2 and the Centre for Urban Schooling at OISE/UT. This AQ will focus on both the theory and practice of developing inner city schools that work to meet the needs of all students in an inclusive and equitable way.
This AQ will bring to life the Model Schools for Inner Cities Task Force Report, which highlighted the areas of "Achieving Fairness and Equity", "Inclusive Culture" and "High Expectations for All Students". The sessions will be presented by various OISE faculty and staff, and will focus on many aspects of inclusive educational theory, strategies and practices. Part One will focus more on understanding the principles of inclusive education in an inner city context. Part Two will include more focus on specific strategies and techniques with regard to inclusive education.
Staff from both Willow Park Junior Public School and the Centre for Urban Schooling will jointly lead this course. The course will be collaborative and interactive in nature, and based on constructivist learning principles, in that each teacher participant will bring their knowledge and experiences to the course. For each program, there will be a major assignment, comprised of a teacher inquiry project in which each candidate will focus on implementing inclusive education practices, in a unique way, for their local school context.
