The Centre for Urban Schooling hosted its second annual William Waters Symposium on Urban Education, which took place at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto from april 14-16th, 2010. This annual event inspires discussion and debate on important issues of research and practice in urban education in Canada.
Featuring a Public Lecture by Lisa Delpit: Mining for Diamonds with Other People's Children
Lisa Delpit will explore how changing school clulture and adopting new practices can create academic excellence for children who are typically least-well served - low income students of colour. When we learn to really know "other people's children" and their communities, we can transform our schools and ourselves.
Professor Lisa Delpit, an internationally renowned and distinguished scholar, who describes her work's strongest focus as finding ways and means to best educate marginalized students.
